Recommended Smoke Alarm Placements. There are recommended areas in your property that smoke alarms need to be installed to meet State Government Legislation (Please check your state)

It is recommended that smoke alarms are installed in every bedroom, outside the bedrooms either in the hallway or first open space, and if a bedroom is not on a level, to install at least one smoke alarm. Majority of house fires occur in the kitchen, around 47%. A smoke alarm installed near the kitchen will give you additional protection and early warning from fire. 

 

Therre are also distances smoke alarms need to be installed from lights, ceiling fans, walls and air-conditioning ducting. 

  1. Within 300mm of a corner of a ceiling and a wall,
  2. Within 300mm of a light fitting,
  3. Within 400mm of an air-conditioning vent,
  4. Within 400mm of the blades of a ceiling fan.
